About Williamson County Public Library
The Williamson County Public Library was formally opened on Saturday, June 26, 1937, with ceremonies on the Public Square in Franklin, Tennessee. Its early days were sustained entirely by private donations; by July 1938 the County Court added the library to its budget. From those first weeks, children's storytimes were a cornerstone of the library's mission — a tradition that has never stopped. The current facility on Columbia Avenue, located one mile south of historic downtown Franklin, opened in 2003 and offers a modern, spacious environment for a rapidly growing county.
Special Collections at the Williamson County Public Library focus on local history, genealogy, family history, and Civil War research — with materials in books, microfilm, manuscripts, photographs, maps, and digital formats. Beyond research, the library hosts genealogy workshops, art displays, book clubs, computer classes, and storytimes throughout the year. Digital resources through Libby and Kanopy extend the library's reach to patrons at home 24/7.
