About Braswell Memorial Library
Braswell Memorial Library has been a cornerstone of learning in the Rocky Mount area since 1922, when it was first organized as the Woman's Club Library. In 1923, the institution moved into a building bearing the name of Thomas Hackney Braswell, a local benefactor, and the library has honored that name ever since. For decades it served the community from its original location before a landmark expansion in 2002, when the library relocated across the street into a modern 60,000-square-foot facility. That move also marked a significant governance change: Braswell became an interlocal governmental entity jointly created and funded by the City of Rocky Mount, Nash County, and Edgecombe County.
Today Braswell Memorial Library offers a rich array of services across its main branch and branch locations. The library's collections span print and digital formats, and cardholders enjoy access to Libby for eBooks and audiobooks, Kanopy for streaming films, and the NCLive statewide database network. Children's storytimes, teen programs, and adult learning workshops keep the community engaged throughout the year.
