📖 About Ferguson Municipal Public Library
The Ferguson Municipal Public Library is the independent public library of Ferguson, Missouri, a small city in northern St. Louis County. It opened on June 1, 1930 at the corner of Carson and Florissant Road with just 575 books, moved several times, and settled into its permanent home at 35 N Florissant Road in 1995. In 1966 it joined the Municipal Library Consortium of St. Louis County (MLC), so a Ferguson card borrows across all nine member libraries and their combined collection of more than 700,000 volumes. The library drew national attention in 2014, when director Scott Bonner kept it open through the civil unrest that followed the death of Michael Brown — hosting ad hoc classes when area schools closed and giving residents a calm place to gather — earning it the 2015 Gale/Library Journal Library of the Year award for "courage in crisis."
