📖 About Rock Hill Public Library
Rock Hill Public Library is the public library of Rock Hill, Missouri, a small city of about 6,000 in west St. Louis County. Its history is a model of community determination: on November 19, 1943, local organizations including the Lion's Club and Rock Hill Improvement Association formed the Rock Hill Village Library Association, and on June 4, 1944 the library opened in two rooms on the second floor of the historic Fairfax House with a small volunteer-run collection. Financial stability came in 1947 when residents voted for a tax levy, enabling the hiring of a full-time librarian. The library relocated to Manchester Road in 1957, then to new quarters in the Rock Hill City Hall in 1965, and by 2012 had settled into its current 4,456-square-foot permanent home in a renovated former paint store at 9811 Manchester Road. Today it holds over 19,000 volumes and participates in the Municipal Library Consortium of St. Louis County (MLC), with its catalog at mlc-ro.modiscovery.org (Missouri Evergreen platform). The library also runs the MLC's signature StoryWalk program, placing illustrated story panels on outdoor trails in local parks.
