The Mid-County Branch is one of the 20 locations of the St. Louis County Library (SLCL), the busiest public library system in Missouri. The branch opened in January 1977 after the Clayton Public Library merged into St. Louis County Library, and it takes its name from its central position in inner-ring St. Louis County. In 2019 the branch completed a major renovation that added roughly 2,500 square feet, redesigned the parking garage, and built out an enhanced children's area sponsored by the William T. Kemper Foundation. It remains the only St. Louis County Library branch with a dedicated parking garage, and it offers a computer training lab, meeting rooms, private study rooms, copiers and document scanning, fax and free notary service, and curbside holds pickup.
