📖 About Addison Public Library
The Addison Public Library traces its roots to 1958, when the Kiwanis Club of Addison began exploring the idea of a library for the village; it officially opened on October 15, 1962 in remodeled rooms of the Municipal Building. As Addison grew rapidly through the 1960s, the library outgrew that space, and a new building at Friendship Plaza opened on October 14, 1968, later gaining an atrium in 1993 and one of the area's first online catalogs and a website by 1996. Today the library serves the Village of Addison from 4 Friendship Plaza with strongly bilingual English/Spanish service, a dedicated Spanish-language phone line, and specialized creative spaces including Sam's Lab and the Digital Media Lab. Addison is a full member of SWAN Library Services, sharing a catalog with dozens of Chicago-area libraries, and belongs to the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) for statewide resource sharing.
