📖 About Moscow Public Library

The Moscow Public Library is the flagship branch of the Latah County Library District (LCLD), housed in the landmark 1906 Carnegie building at 110 S Jefferson Street in Moscow, Idaho. The library's roots go back to 1901, when it opened in a single downtown room. Community members secured a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie in 1903, and architect Watson Vernon of Boise designed the Mission Revival structure that opened in 1906 for just under $9,500. The building was expanded in 1931, again in 1964 (when the basement became a children's library), and again in 1982–83. In 1979 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, recognized as one of the last Carnegie libraries to receive funding. As district headquarters, the Moscow branch houses administrative and technical services for the entire seven-branch system. It marked its 120th anniversary in 2021. Cardholders access a rich digital collection that includes Libby for eBooks and audiobooks, hoopla for streaming media, LiLI's statewide databases, HeritageQuest Online for genealogy, and Mango Languages for foreign language learning. The branch also offers homebound delivery, a Moscow Seed Library, and free one-on-one tech help appointments.
