Hall County's public library traces its roots to a small collection started by the ladies of Grace Episcopal Church in 1933; after a 1936 tornado the books moved to the courthouse basement and the county system was established in 1938. The current downtown headquarters was built in 1967 and dedicated in February 1970, then closed for a major renovation that expanded youth services, added a community room and study spaces, and reopened in 2020, funded by SPLOST, impact fees and a $2 million state grant. The branch also maintains a dedicated genealogy collection.
