📖 About Hart County Library

The Hart County Library grew out of a 1938 effort by the Hartwell Woman's Club and today operates as an independent single-branch library that participates in Georgia's PINES statewide network. Its current 10,000-square-foot building on Benson Street was completed in 1975, funded by $150,000 the community raised and matched by the state, with a 5,000-square-foot expansion added in 1987. A 1968 courthouse fire that destroyed many early books is part of the library's long institutional memory before it settled into its permanent home.
