The system honors Sara Hightower, born in 1911, who served the Carnegie-era Rome library for decades and launched bookmobile service in Floyd County; the regional system was formally named for her in 1980. From its headquarters in Rome, the system connects six libraries and participates in Georgia's PINES network of hundreds of libraries statewide.
