📖 About Carlsbad City Library
The Carlsbad City Library traces its roots to a lending collection launched in a local general store in 1916. The flagship Dove Library opened September 25, 1999 at the corner of Dove Lane and El Camino Real, and a $11.6 million modernization by Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning completed in 2016 added the Exploration HUB makerspace, a teen zone, group study rooms, an expanded Friends Bookstore, and a west patio with fireplace. The 64,000-square-foot building also houses the William D. Cannon Art Gallery — a 2,000-square-foot rotating fine-art exhibition space — and the 215-seat Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, which hosts the library's performing-arts and film series. Through LINK+, Carlsbad cardholders can borrow from more than 70 California and Nevada libraries, reaching over 9 million additional titles. Across its three branches, the library serves more than 107,000 residents and circulates over 1.3 million items per year.
