📖 About Beaumont Library District
The Beaumont Library District is one of twelve independent California library special districts, founded by public vote on August 12, 1911, before Beaumont itself was incorporated as a city. Its landmark Carnegie Library opened in June 1914, designed in Classical Revival style by Los Angeles architect E. L. Hopkins with a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie — making it the last still-operating Carnegie library in Riverside County. The upper floor features WPA murals painted in 1934 by artist Henri de Kruil depicting the mountain panorama north toward the San Bernardino range, alongside Federal Art Project sculptures. In January 2024 the library expanded to seven-day-a-week service, and a two-phase renovation broke ground in February 2025 that will nearly double the building to roughly 20,100 square feet while preserving the historic Carnegie structure. Governed by a five-member elected Board of Trustees, the district serves approximately 67,000 residents across a 60-square-mile area including unincorporated Cherry Valley, operating independently of both city and county government.
