📖 About Antioch Public Library District

The first Antioch Library opened on May 13, 1922, at 757 N. Main Street, and the district has never left that downtown block — a century of civic continuity rare among Illinois public libraries. After a November 2020 referendum passed by just eight votes out of 13,162 cast, the district undertook a $9.6 million renovation and expansion that added 9,000 square feet to the existing 31,000-square-foot building, completing the project exactly 101 years to the day from the library's founding in May 2023. Today the collection spans 107,258 volumes and the building houses an updated computer lab, a 3D-printing station, a local obituary database covering the late 1800s through 2020, and the IRIS statewide database package. Director Jennifer Drinka leads a staff serving the growing Lake County community with extended evening hours and Sunday openings.
