📖 About Scenic Regional Library — Union Branch

The Union Branch traces its roots to May 20, 1959, when Scenic Regional Library was formally established to unite library services across Franklin, Gasconade, and Warren counties after a Missouri State Library demonstration project circulated over 95,000 items and proved lasting community demand. Union served as an early hub for the system, operating from the Municipal Auditorium during those pioneer years. A $491,000 bequest from local benefactor Meta Vossbrink, combined with a $298,000 state grant, funded construction of a 10,700-square-foot facility along Highway 50 in Union completed in 1991. Between 2018 and 2019, as part of a $22-million systemwide renovation and building project, the Union Branch moved into a fully modernized facility at 251 Union Plaza Drive with self-checkout technology and expanded digital access. Today the nine-branch Scenic Regional Library system serves a population of about 147,000 across three counties.
