📖 About Bay Ridge Library
Bay Ridge Library's origins go back to 1880, when local residents formed the Bay Ridge Reading Club to share books among neighbors. The group established its first library building on the present Ridge Boulevard site in 1896, and the branch formally joined Brooklyn Public Library in 1901. The current two-story facility opened in 1960 and underwent a $2.1 million renovation in 2004 to modernize its spaces. Today the branch consistently ranks among BPL's top ten locations for annual visitors, circulation, and program attendance. A dedicated Teen Center opened in October 2023, providing a dedicated zone for teens in grades 6–12 with teen-only events, maker activities, and homework support. The library serves the diverse Bay Ridge, Fort Hamilton, and Dyker Heights communities at the southwest tip of Brooklyn.
