📖 About Orion Township Public Library
The Orion Township Public Library traces its roots to 1926, when the Lake Orion Women's Club established a library on the second floor of a downtown building. Community support spurred it to become the Orion Township Free Public Library in 1929. It moved to the Hemingway House in 1940, then to a dedicated facility at 845 S. Lapeer Road in 1965. The current building at 825 Joslyn Road opened in 1989 — designed to serve 30,000 residents with up to 200,000 annual circulations. The library is independently governed as the Orion Township Public Library and participates in MelCat for interlibrary loan access across Michigan. A 2022–2023 strategic planning initiative with Fast Forward Libraries guides its current direction, emphasizing lifelong access to knowledge, connection, and discovery for the townships of Orion and Lake Orion.
