The Southeast Anchor Library stands at 3601 Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown, a historically immigrant neighborhood on Baltimore's east side that has long been home to Greek, Polish, Latino, and other communities. Opened May 14, 2007 — the first new library construction in Baltimore in over three decades — it was designed to serve Highlandtown and Canton with a modern 27,000-square-foot building that holds more than 80,000 volumes and includes a dedicated reading garden. One of its most distinctive offerings is the Pratt Free Market, which distributes free food and household goods from a pantry inside the branch, extending the library's mission of equitable access to basic needs alongside books. The branch carries one of the Pratt system's most extensive Spanish-language collections to serve its bilingual community and regularly hosts English language classes, computer skills workshops, dance fitness events, and oral history programming.
