📖 About Plymouth Public Library
Plymouth's library story begins in 1871, when the Hub Club raised funds to purchase books for members at 25 cents per year in dues. By 1900 the Woman's Relief Corps had established the first public reading room. The Woman's Club then led a community campaign that combined $3,001 in local fundraising with a $10,000 Andrew Carnegie grant and city support to purchase land and build a dedicated library at 130 Division Street; the 5,400-square-foot building opened in 1915 at a total cost of $12,500. Plymouth Public Library is today a member of the Monarch Library System, which unites public libraries in Dodge, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, and Washington counties, and its cardholders can use the shared Monarch catalog and the Monarch Digital Collection of digitized local history from all four counties. Wisconsin's statewide BadgerLink platform gives patrons access to magazines, newspapers, scholarly journals, and the Archive of Wisconsin Newspapers.
