📖 About Russell County Public Library

The Russell County Public Library has served Lebanon and surrounding Russell County communities since 1959, offering free public library services from its Main Street location in the county seat. Russell County was carved from Washington County in 1786 and sits in Virginia's Clinch River valley, near the Kentucky and Tennessee borders. The Lebanon branch holds over 50,000 items — books, DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs — and maintains a dedicated Local History Room with genealogical records, local authors, and county history materials. A second branch, the Honaker Community Library, serves the northern end of the county. The library is a Southwest Virginia Libraries OverDrive member, giving cardholders access to Libby eBooks, and also offers Hoopla for no-waitlist digital borrowing of movies, music, comics, and audiobooks. A unique community service: the library hosts a Virginia Department of the Treasury kiosk where citizens can search for unclaimed property on site.
