The Raoul A. Cortéz Branch Library opened April 12, 1981, on Hunter Boulevard in the South Side of San Antonio, next to Palo Alto Park. It honors Raoul A. Cortéz (1904–1971), a trailblazing Spanish-language media entrepreneur credited with founding the nation's first full-time Spanish-language radio station and, later, its first full-time Spanish-language television station. The branch is a busy neighborhood library that serves schools within the South San Antonio Independent School District along with nearby Bexar County communities.
