📖 About Round Rock Public Library
The Round Rock Public Library traces its roots to 1962, when the Round Rock Ladies Home Demonstration Club recognized the city's need for a library and organized citizens to establish the first Library Board. They purchased and remodeled an old Ford Motor Company building on East Main Street, with much of the renovation work completed by a Round Rock High School building trades class and local craftsmen. The city assumed ownership in 1977, and after structural damage forced a temporary relocation, a purpose-built two-story facility opened in 1980. In 1999 the library expanded from 11,000 to 43,000 square feet. That building, named in honor of major donors Robert G. and Helen Griffith, served the community for more than two decades until January 28, 2023, when Round Rock opened its current three-story, 66,000-square-foot facility at 200 E. Liberty Avenue — designed by PGAL, Inc. and built by Hensel Phelps at a total cost of $34.7 million, funded through a 2013 voter-approved bond and city funds. The new building draws more than 275,000 visitors per year and holds approximately 170,000 volumes.
