About Jefferson Carnegie Library
The Jefferson Carnegie Library is one of Texas's historic Carnegie libraries, originally built with a grant from industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Located at 301 West Lafayette Street in Jefferson — often called the "Antebellum Gem of East Texas" — this library serves the Marion County community from a building that reflects the graceful architectural heritage of one of Texas's most historically significant towns. Jefferson itself was once the largest inland port in Texas in the 19th century, and the Carnegie Library has been a keeper of the community's rich literary and cultural legacy.
Today the Jefferson Carnegie Library continues its mission of providing free public access to information and reading materials for all Marion County residents. Cardholders can access digital resources including eBooks and audiobooks through the Libby app, and the library's collection includes local history materials that document Jefferson's fascinating past.
