📖 About Bookmarks in NorthPark Center
Bookmarks is unlike any other branch in the Dallas Public Library system: it is a children's-only library located inside NorthPark Center, one of the country's premier shopping malls, at 8687 North Central Expressway. The branch opened on June 13, 2008, after the mall's ownership reached out and asked the library to place a branch there — a reversal of the usual model in which libraries seek out space. The library is deliberately compact and geared toward young children, with short shelves, a play area with a mural, soft seating, toys, and early-learning computers; the entire space is visible from the front door, and a policy requires that an adult over 18 stay with each child. Programming is the main draw, with daily and weekly events including storytimes for toddlers, sing-alongs, and other free activities. Because of its small footprint, staff sometimes have to cap how many families enter at once, especially during busy summer months.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bookmarks a full library, or just for kids?
Bookmarks is a children's-only branch. Its collection, computers, and programming are all geared toward young children, so there is no adult reference collection here; the compact space is designed for storytimes and early-learning play.
How did a public library end up inside NorthPark Center?
The branch opened in June 2008 after the mall's ownership approached the Dallas Public Library and asked for a branch to be located inside NorthPark — the opposite of the usual way libraries acquire space.
Do I need to stay with my child at Bookmarks?
Yes. Because it is a small children's-only space, someone over the age of 18 must stay with each child in the library at all times.
