About Jackson-Madison County Library

The Jackson-Madison County Library serves as the principal public library for Jackson and Madison County, Tennessee, operating under the mission of "Opening Doors to Life-Changing Information." The Main Library on East Lafayette Street houses a collection of 128,079 volumes and circulates over 213,000 items each year to a service population of approximately 98,255 residents. A North Branch at 8 Stonebridge Boulevard provides additional access to the growing northern neighborhoods of Jackson (Mon–Fri: 9 AM – 6 PM).

The library's Tennessee Room is a specialized, non-circulating research collection dedicated to genealogy and local history, containing over 5,000 books and 1,945 microfilm rolls. Holdings include Madison County records, Tennessee Census schedules from 1810 to 1930, Jackson newspapers dating back to 1823, and Tennessee death records. Beyond research, the library provides a MakerSpace, children's and teen departments, digital resources through TEL databases and e-book platforms, and an active community events calendar.
