📖 About Greeneville-Greene County Public Library
The Greeneville-Greene County Public Library was founded in 1908, making it one of East Tennessee's oldest public libraries. In 1976 it moved to its current home at 210 North Main Street, situated picturesque in front of the historic Big Spring — Greeneville's original water source and a site of significance since the town's founding in 1783, the same year Andrew Johnson (17th U.S. President and a Greeneville native) was born. The library serves more than 70,000 Greene County residents with a collection exceeding 50,000 physical items, thousands of digital titles, computer and internet access, printing and copying, notary services, and community meeting space in its 'Big Spring Room,' which recently reopened after renovation. Across the street at 229 North Main Street, the T. Elmer Cox Genealogical and Historical Library (ggcpl partner) offers more than 20,000 archival items for local history and family research. The library belongs to the Holston River Regional Library and connects patrons to the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) and TN Reads via OverDrive/Libby for free digital content.
