📖 About Laurens County Public Library
The Laurens County Public Library opened on March 1, 1930, in the Laurens City Hall, with Mrs. Clyde Ray as its first librarian. It has grown into a two-branch county system — the main branch on West Main Street in Laurens and the Clinton Branch at 304 W. Pitts Street — plus a bookmobile program that dates to 1940, when the county purchased its first dedicated outreach vehicle. The collection now holds approximately 138,000 physical items covering books, periodicals, audiobooks, and video. A dedicated SC Room provides access to South Carolina and local genealogy materials, including maps, microforms, pamphlets, and archival collections. Cardholders also gain free access to DISCUS (South Carolina's statewide digital library), Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest for family history research, and eBooks and eAudiobooks through the Jasmine Digital Library consortium.
