📖 About Squirrel Hill Branch
The Squirrel Hill branch opened in 1972 and was transformed by a $4.4 million renovation that closed the building in February 2004 and reopened it in 2005. That project added roughly 7,000 square feet and reimagined the interior as an open, urban loft overlooking the neighborhood business district. Signature touches include four cozy reading nooks built into the building's outer wall, spacious meeting rooms, and an enclosed garden area. Its location at Forbes and Murray puts it within steps of Squirrel Hill's restaurants, shops, and bus routes, making it one of the most heavily used neighborhood libraries in the CLP system. The branch keeps some of the longest public hours in the network, staying open until 8 p.m. on weeknights and welcoming visitors on Sundays.
