The South Side branch opened in 1909 and was designed by the prominent Pittsburgh firm Alden & Harlow, the same architects behind several of Andrew Carnegie's Pittsburgh libraries. It sits at 2205 East Carson Street, directly on the spine of the South Side Flats — a neighborhood famous for having one of the longest intact Victorian commercial streetscapes in the country. In 1990 the building was recognized on the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation's roster of historic landmarks.
