📖 About Sherwood Public Library
Founded in 1935 with a single shelf of books inside a local drugstore, Sherwood Public Library has grown alongside the city it serves. The Friends of the Library launched in 1976 — the same year the library joined Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) — and raised $106,000 to open Sherwood's first standalone library building in December 1985. A new civic center project replaced it: the current 47,500-square-foot, two-story brick-and-glass facility designed by Thomas Hacker Architects opened in January 2006 at a total project cost of $6.7 million. Today the library connects residents to more than 1.5 million items across the 16-library WCCLS network, along with Oregon's Answerland chat reference service, Libby eBooks, and Kanopy streaming. The reading area includes a fireplace and large windows, and a Library of Things collection, multimedia creation station, and WCCLS Adventure Passes round out the community offering.
