📖 About Beaverton City Library
The Beaverton City Library's story began on February 11, 1938, when a women's Community Book Club met at Kiwanis Hall and resolved to build a library for Beaverton. By the end of that year, WPA support and an Oregon State Library librarian helped launch the collection. The City of Beaverton assumed responsibility in 1941, and through several moves over the following decades — Main Street firemen's hall, 1st Street, Hall Boulevard, and a former Albertsons grocery store — the library kept growing. On September 10, 2000, after 62 years, the library celebrated the grand opening of its current purpose-built facility at 12375 SW Fifth Street. A Murray Scholls branch opened in 2010 and was expanded with the Reser Family Children's Room in 2015. Today the Beaverton City Library is part of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) — a consortium of 16 public libraries sharing 1.5 million items county-wide. Beaverton is one of the busiest WCCLS member libraries, offering a Design & Make (DAM) makerspace, a Library of Things, storycimes in English and Mandarin Chinese, and a bookmobile named Evie that serves stops throughout the city. The library is individually governed as a city library under the City of Beaverton.
