📖 About Gregory Heights Library
Gregory Heights Library's roots in northeast Portland go back to 1938, when the Library Association of Portland opened a modest reading room at 3448 NE 72nd Avenue. After that reading room gave way to bookmobile service in 1956, community members pushed for a permanent branch and the county commission approved construction in 1962. The current building, designed by the Portland architecture firm Farnham and Peck, opened February 23, 1966, at a cost of $83,000 with a founding collection of 10,000 books. A comprehensive renovation led by Thomas Hacker and Associates reopened the branch in March 1999 with an updated 5,997-square-foot footprint, and a second round of improvements funded by the 2020 Multnomah County Library Capital Bond was completed in 2023–2024. Today the branch is one of 19 Multnomah County Library locations and gives cardholders access to more than two million books, periodicals and other materials.
