📖 About Hollywood Library
The Hollywood Library opened its current building on May 7, 2002, at NE 41st Avenue and Tillamook Street, designed by Thomas Hacker and Associates in partnership with the Sockeye Hollywood development. Rather than a standalone building, the 13,000-square-foot library occupies the ground floor of a mixed-use structure topped by 47 mixed-income apartments, making it an early model for library-plus-housing projects in the United States. The branch grew out of a 1996 bond measure that voters approved specifically to improve the Hollywood library and three others after circulation surged. In 2025 and 2026 the interior was refreshed with 2020 bond funds, adding a children's area, updated technology spaces, and a mural honoring author Beverly Cleary, who grew up in the surrounding neighborhood. Today it serves as a full-service branch and, during nearby closures, as an alternate service point for patrons of the shuttered Belmont Library.
