📖 About McMinnville Public Library
The McMinnville Public Library's story begins in 1912, when the city secured a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie and hired Portland architect Ernst Kroner to design a Classical-style building at the southeast corner of City Park. The Wineland & Co. construction firm completed the building for $8,880, and a stained-glass lunette above the original entry — depicting fir trees, a lamp and the inscription 'Carnegie Library 1912' — has survived ever since. McMinnville's is one of 24 Carnegie libraries built in Oregon and among roughly 1,280 still standing in the United States. In 1982 a 14,800-square-foot expansion and connecting breezeway greatly increased capacity while preserving the historic core. Today the library serves the Yamhill County seat as a member of the Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service (CCRLS), connecting patrons to more than 1.6 million items, and has been designated a Yamhill County Mental Health Safe Zone.
