Altus, Oklahoma is the county seat of Jackson County in the southwestern corner of the state, near the Texas border and adjacent to Altus Air Force Base. The Altus Public Library is the main branch of the Southern Prairie Library System (SPLS), which serves both Jackson County and neighboring Harmon County with a combined service population of more than 30,000 residents. The collection of 61,125 volumes is one of the larger public library holdings in rural southwest Oklahoma, and annual circulation exceeds 77,000 items. The library uses the SirsiDynix Symphony integrated system (adopted 2014) and provides public computers, internet access, and a kids' catalog at a separate interface.
