Euclid Public Library was established in 1935 from two branch libraries housed in Euclid's high schools. As the city grew, the need for a dedicated building became clear; in the late 1950s the library constructed its first standalone home at 631 East 222nd Street for approximately $300,000. A major addition in 1966 tripled the original footprint, and further remodeling in 1985 improved accessibility. The 1997 expansion brought the building to its current 48,000 square feet — an achievement that earned the library high rankings on Hennen's American Public Library Ratings Index for years afterward. A complete interior renovation in 2013 refocused the public spaces for modern use. Beginning April 2025, EPL operated from a temporary location at 475 E 185th Street while an $18 million renovation transformed the main building; the library celebrated its grand reopening at 631 East 222nd Street on June 6, 2026. EPL joined the CLEVNET consortium in 1984 — a milestone that doubled circulation within a decade and launched an audiovisual collection that grew from zero to more than 12,000 items. Today EPL serves all of Euclid's roughly 48,000 residents as a U.S. Passport Acceptance Facility and provides digital resources through CLEVNET, Ohio Digital Library, and the OPLIN Ohio Web Library.
