📖 About Brower Park Library
Brower Park Library is named for George V. Brower, Brooklyn Park Commissioner in 1890 and chairman of the Brooklyn Tree Planting and Fountain Society. The branch's history in Crown Heights began in 1963, when it opened as a standalone neighborhood library. In 2023 the original building, which would have required $5.6 million in critical repairs, was replaced by a bold new facility at the Brooklyn Children's Museum at 155 Brooklyn Avenue — saving BPL over $5 million and creating a groundbreaking cultural resource for Central Brooklyn families. The new 6,300 sq ft library, designed by Tsao & McKown Architects, features a floor-to-ceiling window wall, a children's reading stage, a teen zone, and three community rooms with retractable partitions. A transparent 12-foot window connects the children's room directly to the Museum's main gallery, and BPL cardholders can borrow selected items from the Museum's 30,000-piece lending collection. Brower Park Library is part of Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), a network of 61 branches serving all of Brooklyn.
