The Lordsburg-Hidalgo Library serves as the public library of Hidalgo County, New Mexico — one of the state's most remote counties, bordering Arizona to the west and Mexico to the south along 86 miles of international boundary. The library's WPA building was constructed by the Works Progress Administration and finished in 1937, and has housed the library continuously ever since. That historic structure has been listed on the New Mexico State Register (and noted for the National Register of Historic Places), making it one of the few libraries in the state still operating in its original WPA building. Director Collista Jensen leads the library, which is supported by Hidalgo County and operates under the county government.
