Linden Free Public Library serves the City of Linden, a Union County community whose history is bound to oil refining, chemical manufacturing and the mid-century industrial growth of the New Jersey waterfront. The library traces its origins to a Rotary Club-backed reading room that operated voluntarily before becoming a municipal institution on January 1, 1928. A federal-funded building followed in December 1939, and the modern facility at 31 East Henry Street opened in June 2010. Today the library holds approximately 91,846 bibliographic records and serves more than 17,000 registered borrowers across Linden and neighboring Union County towns. Services include free notary public assistance, free Wi-Fi, public internet terminals, and a meeting room for community use.
