Hopkinton Town Library
Hopkinton Town Library is the community anchor of Contoocook village, a building born from Hopkinton residents' own fundraising determination — neighbors voted at town meetings to fund it over several years, then raised half the construction cost themselves before the doors opened in 1998.

📖 About Hopkinton Town Library
Situated on Houston Drive in Contoocook — the larger of Hopkinton's two villages, best known for its 1889 covered railroad bridge — the Hopkinton Town Library opened its current building in 1998 after the community outgrew two older library spaces at the historical society building and the Baker building (now the town clerk's office). The Hopkinton Public Library Foundation, established in 1988, continues to fund technology upgrades, educational projects, and long-term improvements. In August 2018, a lightning strike ignited a fire in the library's cupola, causing extensive smoke and water damage and requiring near-complete replacement of the collection; the swift community response demonstrated how deeply the library is woven into town life. Today the collection holds over 31,800 volumes, circulating nearly 75,000 items a year, and the library serves as a year-round gathering place for book clubs, art gallery exhibitions, skill workshops, and ukulele enthusiasts. Sunday hours are seasonal (September through May).
