The Philipsburg Public Library opened in the 1940s, giving Granite County's mountain seat a permanent place to borrow books — no small feat for a town whose fortunes had risen and fallen with silver mining since the Granite-BiMetallic boom of the 1890s. Philipsburg is the county seat of Granite County, formed in 1893, and the library at 106 W Broadway Street reflects the tight-knit character of a historic Main Street community. Today the collection holds more than 5,000 in-house books and 800 DVDs, with access to 400,000+ additional titles through the Partners Sharing Group consortium spanning Montana libraries.
