📖 About Texas County Library — Houston Branch
The Texas County Library serves Missouri's largest county by area from its Houston headquarters, with branches also in Cabool, Licking, and Summersville. The main library relocated in October 2025 to a new, more spacious building at 191 N. First Street — a milestone celebrated by library director Louise Beasley in the pages of the Houston Herald. As a member of the Missouri Evergreen shared catalog, cardholders can search and borrow from participating libraries across the state, and the system provides access to genealogy resources, Learning Express testing prep, and Libby eBooks. Technology upgrades funded through federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grants have brought updated computers and internet access to all four branches, serving students, job seekers, and lifelong learners in a region where the library is often the sole public technology resource. The Houston Branch hosts a regular Book Club alongside storytimes and programming at each branch location.
