📖 About Framingham Public Library
Framingham Public Library operates two full-service locations in Framingham, a city of more than 70,000 residents west of Boston. The main library at 49 Lexington Street serves as the flagship, while the Christa McAuliffe Branch at 746 Water Street is named in honor of Framingham's own Christa McAuliffe — the educator and astronaut who was selected as the first Teacher in Space and lost in the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Both locations are members of the Minuteman Library Network, giving cardholders seamless borrowing access across 40 eastern Massachusetts libraries. FPL's Spark Lab (appointments required) offers hands-on access to a Snapmaker A350t 3D printer, while the Seed Lending Library lets gardeners check out seeds each spring. A Bookmobile extends service to residents who cannot easily reach a branch, and a Veterans Resource Center provides targeted support for service members and their families.

Why is one branch named the Christa McAuliffe Branch?
Christa McAuliffe was a Framingham resident and Framingham State University alumna who taught at Concord High School in New Hampshire. In 1985 she was selected from among 11,000 applicants as NASA's first Teacher in Space. She and the six other crew members of Space Shuttle Challenger were lost on January 28, 1986. The Water Street branch is named in her memory, honoring her connection to Framingham and her belief in the power of education.
How do I use the Spark Lab 3D printer?
The Spark Lab houses a Snapmaker A350t 3D printer, operated by library staff only (no patron self-service). Submit a print request to fplsparklab@minlib.net or email fpladmin@minlib.net to book an appointment. The Spark Lab is open by appointment and does not offer drop-in access. Equipment does not circulate for home use.
