The Amesbury Public Library is the public library of Amesbury, a historic city on the Merrimack River in Essex County, northern Massachusetts. Amesbury rose to prominence as a carriage-manufacturing center in the nineteenth century — home to poet John Greenleaf Whittier — and the library has long anchored its cultural and civic life. Housed at 149 Main Street in the heart of downtown, the library holds an extensive Local History and genealogy collection that documents Amesbury's industrial past and the families who shaped it.
