📖 About Burlington Public Library
The Burlington Public Library is the public library of Burlington, Massachusetts, a Middlesex County town of about 26,000 people just north of Route 128. Reading in Burlington goes back to a subscription "social library" founded in 1816, and the town first began funding a public library in 1857. The current building at 22 Sears Street, next to the Town Common, opened in 1968 — Town Meeting had approved it in 1964, and it was built at roughly 12,000 square feet. After nearly three decades of heavy use, the 1968 building no longer met accessibility and space standards, so in June 1993 Town Meeting voted nearly $3 million for a major addition and renovation, during which the library operated temporarily from 23 Center Street. Today it belongs to the Minuteman Library Network, so a Burlington card borrows across dozens of member libraries throughout Greater Boston.
