📖 About Agawam Public Library
Agawam's public library traces its origins to 1891, when the Agawam Free Public Library was established in rooms at the Agawam and Feeding Hills town halls and the Mittenague School in North Agawam. After a 1904 fire destroyed the Mittenague School and its book collection, local patron Fred P. Halladay donated land and a building in North Agawam to serve as the area library. In 1925 Minerva Porter Davis donated a building in Agawam Center to replace the town hall rooms. The libraries were consolidated in 1978 in the current building adjacent to the high school on Cooper Street. Today Agawam Public Library serves residents of all ages with extended weeknight hours, a 'Library of Things' lending collection, nearly two dozen museum and attraction passes, accessible technology for visually impaired patrons, and genealogy and local history materials spanning decades of Agawam life. Library cards are free to all Agawam residents.
