Calvert Library Prince Frederick is the headquarters branch of Calvert Library, the public library system of Calvert County, Maryland. The system was founded in 1959 in a donated building on Main Street in Prince Frederick — then open one afternoon a week — and grew through a series of expansions and new branches over the following decades. Groundbreaking for the current purpose-built building at 850 Costley Way took place in 2004, and the branch opened in 2006 with expanded shelving, separate areas for young children and young adults, and improved community meeting spaces. In 2019, Calvert Library became fine-free system-wide. The catalog is shared with Southern Maryland libraries through the SOMD consortium (catalog.somd.lib.md.us). Cardholders can borrow eBooks and audiobooks through Libby/OverDrive, stream films through Kanopy, enjoy unlimited digital titles through hoopla, and access Maryland's Sailor statewide research portal.
