📚 About New Orleans Public Library

New Orleans Public Library (NOPL) is the public library system serving Orleans Parish, Louisiana. In Louisiana, parishes are the equivalent of counties, and Orleans Parish is coextensive with the City of New Orleans. NOPL operates 14 locations including the Main Library on Loyola Avenue and a network of neighborhood branches rebuilt and expanded following Hurricane Katrina (2005), which devastated much of the system.

Among NOPL's most beloved branches is the Milton H. Latter Memorial Library on St. Charles Avenue — housed in a magnificent 1907 Beaux-Arts mansion donated to the city in 1948. The system is known for its strong Louisiana and New Orleans history collection, and for community programming that reflects the city's unique cultural heritage including French Creole, African American, and Vietnamese communities.
