📖 About Algiers Regional Library

Algiers Regional Library serves the West Bank of the Mississippi River from 3014 Holiday Drive. It first opened on April 19, 1966 as the prototype for the New Orleans Public Library's regional expansion plan, complete with a 90-seat auditorium. Hurricane Katrina completely destroyed the branch, and it stayed closed for roughly seven years. A new, expanded building reopened in July 2012 on the same Holiday Drive site, giving the community a two-story facility with modern collections and program space. Today it is the larger of the two library locations serving Algiers and the wider West Bank, the other being the smaller Hubbell Library in Algiers Point. Among its long-standing offerings is the West Bank Book Club, one of the library system's longest-running programs.
