Anderson Public Library

The Anderson Public Library traces its roots to the Pierian Club's 1906 parlor reading room and a letter to Andrew Carnegie that yielded a $5,000 building grant, making it one of Kentucky's Carnegie-heritage libraries. Today, from a modern facility built on land donated by the town's women's club, it serves all of Anderson County with everything from a dedicated genealogy History Room to a 3D printer and film-digitization station.

📖 About Anderson Public Library

The Anderson Public Library at 114 North Main Street in Lawrenceburg is the public library for Anderson County, Kentucky. Its story begins in 1906 when the Pierian Club — a women's literary society led by Mrs. Wallace Moore Bartlett — opened a two-room reading club above the Lawrenceburg National Bank. Within two years the collection was circulating 2,000 items. Club president Ethyl G. Ripy wrote to Andrew Carnegie, who offered $5,000 toward a permanent building if the community matched it for upkeep; the Carnegie-aided Lawrenceburg Public Library opened November 8, 1908. Growth eventually necessitated a larger facility, and in July 1974 the library moved to its current building on a site donated by the Lawrenceburg Women's Club (formerly the Pierian Club itself), adopting the name Anderson Public Library. The present building provides three meeting rooms, a butterfly garden, public computers, and an Anderson County Kentucky History Room stocked with microfilm, deed books, genealogy guides, and county historical documents.
