📖 About Willis L. Miller Library
The South Georgia Regional Library System (SGRL) traces its origins to 1896, when the Columbine Club — a local women's civic group in Valdosta — established the city's first library with $40 worth of donated books, housed in City Hall. A Carnegie Foundation grant in 1912 funded a permanent building that opened in 1914. The Lowndes-Echols Regional Library system was formally established in 1947, expanded to Lanier County in 1950, and renamed the South Georgia Regional Library System in 1954. The Willis L. Miller Library opened on July 28, 2018, replacing the former headquarters as the system's modern flagship. Named after Willis L. "Wyn" Miller, a former trustee chairman and lifelong Valdosta resident, the 34,000-square-foot facility offers gig-speed Wi-Fi throughout, a 3D-printing maker space, microfilm facilities, dedicated children's and teen areas, multiple meeting rooms available for private and community use, and the full breadth of SGRL's digital collections. The system now operates seven locations serving Lowndes, Echols, and Lanier counties in South Georgia.
